Robert Russell Designs
A rendering of a solid walnut dining table with a matching bench, one of Rob's pieces, in a sunny eat-in kitchen, with a pencil drawing of a table laid on top.

Shown in a rendered room

Every piece begins with a conversation.

Answer a few short questions and I will come back to you to arrange a call. You talk to the person who builds it.

  • With The maker, not a salesperson
  • At a time A limited number of commissions
  • Before anything is cut You approve the drawing

What the consultation covers

  • The room

Where it goes, how much clearance you have, and how many people actually sit at it.

  • The material

Species, figure and material selection, what is available for the project, and what best suits the design and daily use.

  • The finish

Matte hard wax through to a high-gloss flood coat, and how each behaves over years.

  • The number

What the piece costs, in writing, before anything is ordered or cut.

What are you commissioning?

Pick the closest. We will work out the rest together.

What shape is the table?

Pick the plan closest to what you have in mind.

Which wood tone?

Species is chosen together later, against the slabs actually available.

Which finish?

The finish is settled on physical samples before anything is finished.

Roughly what size?

An estimate is fine. Dimensions are settled on the drawing.

Where should the proposal go?

I read and answer every one myself.
